Reel Life Photos - How it all started...
I met Jorge in Cuba while I was a student at Huddersfield Uni on a month's study trip in Havana. He was working for Cuban TV, but less than two years after meeting each other we got married in the UK - a simple wedding at Dewsbury Register Office, followed by a party for 80 in our back garden! A year after our own wedding, we set up Reel Life Photos in 2000 with our first video assignment being a training video for Syngenta.
I initially worked for another wedding photographer over in Lancashire - being handed just 3, 36 exposure films from which I had to supply him with 72 good images, with both formal, traditional posed group shots as well as reportage images from their weddings! I still have one of those images on my wall, of a bride and groom (Si and Jo) at sunset from the balcony at the Lowry in Salford!
Our first professional wedding as Reel Life Photos was at Waterton Park Hotel near Wakefield in June 2002 for Lisa and Paul, where Jorge shot and edited the couple's video and I was their wedding photographer.
The SWPP - Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers - has been influential in inspiring and assisting my continued development over the past decade, with their many training sessions, monthly competitions, and the Annual Convention, but I also need to thank my father, who bought me my first camera when I was 11 and taught me all the basics. Both his father and his grandfather (my great grandfather) were photographers, as is my son and one of my sisters.
Fast-forward to 2007 and a chance meeting with one of our web-designers ended in an invitation to shoot their wedding in The Ice Hotel in Sweden (These pics are from the second wedding I photographed there in 2010) . Since then, we have been all over the world for international weddings, mainly where the couple have family connections to another country. These are some of the countries we have covered weddings for our wonderful clients: Tenerife, Australia - twice, France (twice), Southern Ireland, Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Nigeria, The Gambia (three times), Cyprus, Norway, The Seychelles and Cuba.
We love weddings, so would love to share your day, in a lovely relaxed manner, full of emotion and excitement, all captured in still or moving images. Will you invite us to join you?
xx Elaine and Jorge
